Jon’s Place

November 19, 2006 by Dan

A long time ago, I wrote a short story about a kid who works in a coffee house. In what was a serious surprise to me, the darned thing wouldn’t just finish itself, and eventually it ended up being around three hundred pages long.

That’s pretty long. Novel-length, some would say. So I shopped it around for a few months, got no bites, and got irritated and put it online as a blog, using Rodin. I spent a few bucks on advertising, updated it as a chapter-book every couple of days, and ended up with quite a few readers, some of whom I’m still friends with. It was quite gratifying.

I forgot about it for a while, and then the site was discovered by comment – spammers, and they spammed me so much it nearly knocked me offline. So I took it down completely, then decided to re-post it here as simple pages. So, without further ado, here’s Guy Stuff. Some of it feels dated, as most of it was written over four years ago. But I really like it; it’s funny and angsty and everything that I wanted it to be when I wrote it.

Want to read it? Start here.

  1. […] Guy Stuff is back.  Although it turns out I really didn’t take it down.  Anyway, the link to it is here.  You can also get to it from the link on the right. Eventually I’ll redirect the old subdomain, but I want to test the whole novel (click through it and make sure it makes sense) before I do that.  However, that’s not going to happen tonight, as I just spent nearly two hours copying and pasting and creating pages, instead of doing things that I should be doing.  It’s probably still a fun read, though… […]
