Yum in San Diego

I just got back from the Whisknladle in La Jolla tonight. I took a cab down from my hotel (I’m here on business, and I’m probably the only person in the city who’s taking cabs around town tonight. My cabbie on the way back said it had something to do with the weather, the economy, it being Monday, or both) and walked in. There were two seats available at the bar, so I took one and ordered a jalapeno-water/avocado/gin cocktail, two tapas, and cauliflower soup. The tapas were bacon/mushroom/pecorino flatbread and house salami on a board.

Only salami. Nothing else. Awesome.

I was still hungry, so I asked the bartender if I wanted the roasted bone marrow or the tagliatelle bolognese. “Bolognese,” he said. “It’s amazing.”

One large bolognese and a brown ale. Perfect pasta. Really. Perfect. I finished up and walked around La Jolla, which was quiet and dark. Combined with the dinner we had at the Linkery on Saturday night, and San Diego is turning out to be gastronomically great. Good beer, too.
