It’s interesting that as Google overtakes Microsoft in the brand-name recognition war, I’m in the throes of grumbling about a Google product. Specifically, Google Reader, which is still in beta and really shouldn’t be a public product now. It’s probably the worst newsreader I’ve used, for one simple reason:
It doesn’t update feeds in a timely [...]

David Halberstam has died. I’ve read a good number of his books (oh, wouldn’t it have been wonderful if more in today’s government had read The Best and the Brightest?), and always thought that he was one of the best, if not the best, guy around at covering large swaths of time — a decade, [...]

I went to Tu Lan for lunch today. It’s a little Vietnamese place that does Saigon-style street food near the corner of Sixth and Market; one of the nastier intersections in the city. I sat at the counter and ate my imperial rolls over noodles and vegetables ($4.95, one of the better deals around). Things [...]

I’m sitting in a cafe (surprise) doing some writing (even bigger surprise) and I now officially have MacBook envy. I’m one of the only G4s in the whole place. In other news, I am now officially a registered San Francisco business, which I’m probably a year late in doing, but better late than never.

Forbes took into account “nightlife, [...]

Well, the big debate today in San Francisco is an incident at last week’s Critical Mass ride. I’d chime in on the SFgate and SFist blog streams, but, honestly, they’ve (predictably) devolved into standard bikes vs. cars insults. I own this site, so I’m putting my thoughts here.
I bike in San Francisco quite a bit [...]

Today, about an old friend’s father who’s been in the ICU for a couple of weeks due to complications from emergency surgery. I’m not one for prayer, but I am one for thinking good thoughts, so I’m thinking away, hoping he makes it home safely.

I finished most of my school work for the semester at 5:28 pm on Friday, and spent the weekend celebrating in my own inimitable way. ‘Twas fun, and now I’m on a couch at home under a blanket listening to Rufus Wainwright, cursing my lack of in-house ice cream, because there’s no way I’m getting [...]
