Healing

Dan | November 30, 2005

I’ve been thinking quite a bit about that word for the past several days. My eye is in the process of healing, slowly working its way back to the land of the living and the seeing. Apparently I’m quite lucky; if these corneal ulcers had happened on my pupil, instead of just outside, [...]

A vignette

Dan | November 29, 2005

I collapsed at about ten last night, after falling asleep during Monday Night Football at the Toronado. A small note: it should be impossible to do this; the back room is loud, people are yelling, it wasn’t particularly warm…but I did it anyway. Went on home, talked to a couple of people about this [...]

More updates

Dan | November 27, 2005

Good things today:
1) Walgreens lets you fill prescriptions from anywhere, so I was able to get more antibiotics from an old prescription instead of having to go to the ER and wade through the standard Sunday Morning Overdose crowd to get to a doc who’d give me a prescription for the same thing.
2) I [...]

Eye problems, part tres

Dan | November 27, 2005

Let’s see:
1) Blinding, stabbing pain in an eye (the left one this time)
2) Swollen, bloodshot eye.
3) Can’t sleep b/c of the pain and the tearing
Welcome To Corneal Ulcer Land! I’ve got some leftover antibiotics, so hopefully I can get through this one without having to go to the doctor and adding to the ungodly [...]

Lovemakers at the Fillmore

Dan | November 23, 2005

Checked out the Lovemakers at the Fillmore tonight; ’twas a great show. I had that feeling I had when I saw Muse last year, that this is the last time that I’ll be able to see that band in a venue that small.
Good on ‘em. I’m now totally exhausted after work, [...]

A Sad Thing

Dan | November 21, 2005

I did one of my normal morning runs today; up the Panhandle, a mile loop inside Golden Gate Park and back. On my way through Sharon Meadow, it was the usual scene. DPW guys were emptying the garbage, and some of the local homeless were going through the leftovers and pulling out cans [...]

Another episode…

Dan | November 20, 2005

The story continues over at The Chronicles of Charlie. And no, it’s not autobiographical at all.

Hm…yet another conundrum

Dan | November 20, 2005

I had a discussion about this the other day, and it’s been bugging me. Which movie is a better representation of post-collegiate single life — Reality Bites or Singles? I think I’m going to break it down, Bill Simmons-style. Whoever ends up with more edges wins.
Male Lead: Steve Dunne vs. Ethan Hawke. [...]

Peninsula, part I

Dan | November 18, 2005

I rode Caltrain down from San Francisco today, biking the Embarcadero to the station at 4th and King in the twilight. It’s a fun ride; the cars are mostly stopped completely, and you can zip in and out of traffic in that way that feels super-fast when the light is low. The train [...]

What a way to start the morning

Dan | November 18, 2005

I washed my comforter last night, and when I got home, I noticed that it wasn’t completely dry, so I hung it up on my closet door to air it out while I slept. To stay warm, I closed my windows (I never close my windows).
When I woke up, [...]

More stupidity

Dan | November 17, 2005

Pretty sure that this site isn’t some kind of bizarre meta-parody. But what if it is? If I was going to make fun of right-wing morons, this would be a good way to do it.

Stupidity

Dan | November 17, 2005

I’m watching some videos for work today; currently looking at a documentary shot by the folks who organized the MUNI wildcat strike on September first (which was a spectacular failure). My fave is the guy who declares “I’ve been on a fare strike all of my life.”
Um, idiot…maybe MUNI is raising fares because [...]

Decisions, decisions

Dan | November 17, 2005

Do I go to the Dandy Warhols at the Fillmore tonight? Do I hang out at my house (which I have yet to do this week) and try to finish a couple of books?

Joining…

Dan | November 16, 2005

I read the book about the Join Me guy earlier this year, and it was ok. I laughed a few times just because I dig British humor.
But I really liked what he did with his newfound power; created a meta-cult where the only requirement is that you do something nice for someone [...]

Five dollar shake

Dan | November 15, 2005

In Pulp Fiction, Uma Thuran and John Travolta are at Jackrabbit Slim’s. Uma orders a five dollar milkshake, and Travolta reacts with surprise that a shake could cost so much. He tries it, noting that “I dunno if it’s worth five dollars but that’s a damned good shake.”
I just got a milkshake from [...]

Short post

Dan | November 14, 2005

One of the interesting things about having a new job is that I don’t have nearly as much time as I used to to screw around; hence tonight. I got home at seven-thirty, put my bike away, then immediately met some friends for a birthday party.
Chocolate Mousse cake with espresso praline almond [...]

Weekend…

Dan | November 13, 2005

I spent the weekend doing fun stuff; hanging with friends, doing very little on Saturday, then going to a birthday party on Saturday night. After four hours of sleep, I hopped in a car and went up to Napa for some wine-tasting and a birthday party for someone I didn’t know.
Photos here. [...]

Friday night we’ll, be drinkin…

Dan | November 11, 2005

Well, not Manischewitz tonight, and I’m certainly not terrorizing any Goyem, but…
Look, I swear I don’t write about politics, but Bill O’Reilly is welcome to come here and tell the seven hundred thousand people who live here why it’s perfectly ok if we die. I’d love for him to explain to my upstairs neighbor, [...]

Working man…

Dan | November 11, 2005

I was at the new job until 11 last night, and am headed back in now after doing some stuff until about one-thirty in the morning. A little inspired? Yeah, I might be.
So, after dim sum this morning with a friend, I’m headed in to do some stuff, and then out to [...]

After a long, long, delay…

Dan | November 10, 2005

The Chronicles of Charlie is back. With a vengeance, yo.
