Call for some help…

Dan | June 29, 2005

Not writing as much–busy trying to do about ten things. Out of curiosity, anyone out there want to do a bit of bug-testing on a side project that I’m working on with a friend? I can tell you that it’s really cool, and it’s going to make me more influential than Julia Childs, [...]

All right, all right…

Dan | June 28, 2005

Due to popular demand, here’s what happened this weekend–be warned, it’s much less exciting than my previous post implied.
There were nine of us on a houseboat in the Sacto river, all guys. We had quite a few ways to keep ourselves entertained, and I’m not going to get any more specific than that, just [...]

Several annoyances

Dan | June 28, 2005

1) I totally bailed on finishing off this week’s Chronicles. I feel kind of bad, but on the other hand it’s my self-imposed deadline, and if I skip it, nobody will lose their head. I’ll have it done by next week, somehow.
2) It’s foggy,which I don’t mind so much, but I’d rather not [...]

Dead

Dan | June 27, 2005

Survived Weekend O’ Insanity #1–bachelor party on a boat in the Sacramento River Delta. Typically, I’m now behind on the Chronicles–I have to line-edit the next episode, and will try to get it up by the end of the day today.
Goal for the week–nothing grilled to eat, no junk food, no raw cookie dough.

Another list

Dan | June 23, 2005

Things I have to do today, before 7:30
1) Work. My job decided to get all busy
2) Buy pillows. Mine suck.
3) Buy a swimsuit. I have none.
4) Rent a bunch of action movies
5) Run? Exercise?
6) Finish draft one of Charlie Episode VI
I give myself a 25% chance of making this happen. [...]

Busy busy

Dan | June 22, 2005

Yep, that’s me. I have no time. None. Zero. I have so little time that I’m sitting here writing on this self-masturbatory blog rather than work on my real work or on the Chronicles.
Actually, I do have real work to do, which I am now going to do. Sorry [...]

The weirdest thing on the Internet today

Dan | June 21, 2005

The AM/PM Coffee-Stain Personality Test. The whole site is incredibly strange. Take the test. Apparently I like Cappucino from one of their automatic machines.

Spoon!

Dan | June 21, 2005

Saw Spoon last night, ran into Maya. ‘Twas a good show, although I was completely on my last legs. Woke up with still-sore hips, a weird cut/bruise on my wrist, sore ribs, exhausted. Biked into work to try to stretch out a bit, but…man, I’m getting old.
On the other hand, it was a [...]

Lucinda

Dan | June 20, 2005

Saw Lucinda Williams and John Doe at the Stern Grove festival yesterday. It was a good show for many reasons, not least of which was the picnic we brought along. Lucinda was in fine form, her voice was…well, she has the kind of voice that makes driving alone in the desert worthwhile.
Doe was [...]

Go-Betweens at Slims

Dan | June 17, 2005

I love writing a quick show review before going to bed–I just got back from the Go-Betweens with the Court and Sparkle at Slim’s.
The less said about the C&S the better. They’re so bland they make the Wallflowers look like Slayer. They’d be good if they wrote songs that didn’t blend together, didn’t [...]

Funniest thing you’ll see today

Dan | June 17, 2005

Superdickery.com. It’s a bunch of scans of Superman comics where Supes is being a dick. Absolutely hilarious.
Thanks for the good wishes, as I’m feeling much, much better. Go-Betweens tonight!

Light posting

Dan | June 16, 2005

1) A little sick. Slept for over ten hours last night, hoping that killed it and feeling better today.
2) It’s raining. June. What the hell?
3) Work. I have lots of it to do right now.
4) Ecstatic about various things; have some great new ideas for Charlie, and that is really taking up [...]

Wow

Dan | June 15, 2005

I just finished reading Feast of Love by Charles Baxter. That, my friends, was a great book. I wish I could write like that. His ability to switch voices, use subtle grammatical and verbal cues to indicate who’s speaking, and on and on… One of the best recommendations I’ve had in quite [...]

More Left Behind

Dan | June 14, 2005

I was cruising over at Left Behind today, just because I like to read about crappy writing done by maniac wingnuts, and after a choice comment from my pal Aaron (”God hates good writing.”), I noted that Christian literature is kind of like Christian rock. The structure is there (in Left Behind, it’s a [...]

Today’s obsessions

Dan | June 14, 2005

1) Wheatgrass shots. I think they taste terrible, and today at Jamba Juice (yes, every now and then I get a smoothie at the Corporate Whore Juice chain. Deal.), this guy was buying one. When it comes out of the grinder, it looks like a green alien proboscis.
2) Ride’s first few EPs (Fall, [...]

Charlie is up!

Dan | June 13, 2005

There’s a new episode up of the Chronicles of Charlie. This time, I took him to a baseball game! Even incompetent assassins need to have a little fun…

Back…

Dan | June 13, 2005

Hiked all weekend in the Trinity Alps, fell completely behind for the first time on the Chronicles (hoping to get it online today), and am so sore…but it was the best weekend since Memorial Day.
Man, I’ve been having good weekends!

Outta here

Dan | June 10, 2005

Going camping. Back Sunday. Very stoked!

More song memes!

Dan | June 9, 2005

I kinda like this blog meme thing (although the phrase is inane).
Best songs to drive to–I got the idea while listening to “Roadrunner” by the Modern Lovers just now, and thinking about how I’m stoked to burn a CD and be listening to that song while driving up Highway 5 this week. [...]

Deadline pressure

Dan | June 9, 2005

It’s interesting writing to a deadline–something I’ve rarely done in the past. I was up well past midnight last night working on a first draft for the Chronicles, and basically got a shell of the next episode done. There’s a ton more work to do on it, which I plan on doing either [...]
